HISTORY OF THE FOOD BANK

OUR HISTORY

The Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank was established in 1984. Its original location was at Kingsley Field Air Base but with increased security requirements after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, a new location had to be found.

The Food Bank eventually found its way to the current location at 3231 Maywood Drive where it has remained for over 20 years. The location includes the business office as well as the 12,000 square foot warehouse that houses perishable and non-food items that are distributed to food pantries where those in need can receive a food box.

The Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank has grown from its modest beginnings and now boasts 8 full-time employees. It partners with countless agencies, providing food and assistance in many ways.

There are over 20 pantry sites open in Klamath and Lake Counties where individuals meeting the food assistance requirements can receive food. During summer months, the Produce Connection program provides extra sites where the public can receive fresh produce.

On average, the Food Bank is distributing 2.5 million pounds of food to our service area. The food is sourced from the Oregon Food Bank, local farmers, community members, and food that is purchased from fundraised dollars.
